Superstar Rajinikanth has finally announced the director of his next film, Thalaivar173, with Don fame Siby Chakraborty to helm the project. Now, there is speculation about the story of the film, which is said to be shaping up to be an action-comedy venture.
Thalaivar173: Is Rajinikanth ready to play a tailor in his next film with Sibi Chakraborty?
According to online discussions, Thalaivar173 will feature Rajinikanth as a tailor who lives a quiet life with his family. However, the man is said to have a scary past which he has buried in order to live a normal life.
Although he wants to stay away from it all, danger is stalking him, and he must now use his skills as a hero to protect his family. That said, this remains speculation as of now, with no official confirmation from the makers.
Interestingly, the announcement post featured sewing scissors, precision tools, and fake passports, hinting that the film could be a large-scale action-comedy entertainer.
Initially, Thalaivar173 was announced to be led by director Sundar C, marking a reunion after many years. However, the filmmaker later left the project due to prior commitments. Subsequently, there were reports of several directors narrating the script to Rajinikanth, including Ashwath Marimuthu, Nithilan Saminathan and Ramkumar Balakrishnan.
Eventually, Don director Siby Chakraborty got the opportunity to work with the superstar, in his second directorial venture. Sharing his excitement about collaborating with Rajinikanth, the filmmaker penned a long note recalling his experience.
Rajinikanth’s upcoming film
Rajinikanth will next be seen in the lead role in the action-comedy sequel Jailer 2. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the film is set to be the sequel to the 2023 hit Jailer. Actors like Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Vijay Sethupathi, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty and others are expected to feature. The film is expected to release on the big screens in August 2026.
Recently, in an interview given to Bengali media, actor Mithun Chakraborty had also revealed that Shahrukh Khan will be seen in the film, although there has been no official confirmation yet. Additionally, actress Nora Fatehi is expected to feature in a special dance number.
