Taylor Swift couldn’t make it to the Democrat event, but her songs did

Taylor Swift may have been absent from the Democratic National Convention (DNC), but her presence was felt through her music. On the second night of the convention, her chart-topping hits rocked the air shake it off Remained at centre stage during the roll call vote.

But that wasn’t the only Taylor Swift reference that night.

House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries said, “Donald Trump is like an old lover you broke up with, but he’s not going away. He spent the last four years trying to reconnect with the American people. Brother, we broke up with you for a reason!” He added, quoting Swift’s hit song, “There’s no reason for us to get back together.” We will never be together again.

Colorado Governor and ‘Swiftie’ Jared Polis also referenced the song during his address at the DNC. He said, “As a Redditor, gamer, entrepreneur and Swiftie from the free state of Colorado, I am excited by Kamala Harris’ vision to protect and expand our personal liberties, internet freedom and economic freedom.” He added that the Democratic Party “doesn’t have weirdos telling people who can and can’t have kids.”

“We will never back down,” he said.

This comes at a time when Swift is yet to officially endorse any candidate for the 2024 election, despite polls suggesting her support could significantly boost the chances of both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.

Earlier, Mississippi Rep. Kelly Jacobs handed out thousands of Taylor Swift-themed bracelets at the event. Jacobs also made a statement on the first day of the convention, wearing a body-length sign that read “Storm the ballot box like they stormed the Capitol on January 6” and distributing homemade “Swifty Voter” friendship bracelets.

Taylor Swift has recently completed the UK leg of her hugely successful The Eras Tour and now she’s heading to Nashville.
