Taapsee Pannu said she was not the first choice for ‘Haseen Dillruba’
Taapsee Pannu revealed that her role in ‘Haseen Dilruba’ was earlier planned for another actor. She expressed happiness over this unconventional casting choice.

Taapsee Pannu recently revealed that the role of Rani in ‘Haseen Dillruba’ was originally meant for another actress. She shared that she was not the ideal choice for the role, which made the opportunity even more exciting for her.
Taapsee, who will next be seen in ‘Phir Aai Haseen Dillruba’, said, “I had heard from Kanika that she had a story like this. I told Kanika that I was eager to hear it, but I had gone for a film shoot and when I returned, I got to know that she had already narrated the film to another actor and they were going to finalise things soon.”
Taapsee revealed that after several months, Kanika contacted her again and called her to the office to narrate the script, “without asking any further questions.” The actress said, “When she finished narrating the story, I burst out laughing. I told her, ‘It was my destiny (I already told you I was going to do this film). I immediately said yes.”
Taapsee said, “I am not the ideal actor for this film, except for some grey parts in it. Because whatever grey part is not right on paper, I am the right person for it. Apart from this, nothing else in the film suited my casting. Maybe that was the reason I was excited.”
“Because then I will be able to do it in a way that would not be expected or the most ideal way to do it. When I do it, it will be different from someone who is ideally perfect for such a role. I thought it would be a great opportunity to test myself and I learnt a lot about what I can potentially do,” the ‘Thappad’ actor added.
‘Phir Aai Haseen Dillruba’ stars Vikrant Massey, Taapsee Pannu and Sunny Kaushal in lead roles. Directed by Jayapradha Desai, the film is a direct sequel to the 2021 hit film ‘Haseen Dillruba’.
The film will be released on Netflix on August 9.
