Two bodies were found in the Parramatta River in Sydney last Saturday after investigators found a suicide note, prompting authorities to classify the incident as deliberate murder and suicide. Police were called after witnesses told them a man was seen floating in the water. This same man was earlier seen in a boat with a child. The man was identified as Maulik Dhandhukia, a 47-year-old Indian-origin businessman who lived in Australia with his family. It is believed that Dhandhukia first threw her child from the boat and then jumped into the river. Neither of them knew how to swim. As soon as the father rented the boat, he was given a life jacket for himself and his child. Apparently he initially wore those jackets but later discarded them.Police said that after Dhadhukia’s body was found, they found a suicide note on the boat. The body of a six-year-old girl was recovered from the river bank on Saturday evening.Local authorities told police that the man had rented the boat at least twice before – once with a woman and child, possibly her family. This was his third time on the boat when he brought his daughter.A few weeks before the tragedy, Dhandhukia had written publicly about living with chronic neck pain caused by a gym injury in 2005. In a social media post, he said that the injury has affected his life to a great extent. He wrote, “To summarize, probably 70 percent to 90 percent of the problems I faced in my life were due to neck pain.”Police said that the police had no information about Dhandhukia and there was no apprehension of violence.Dhandhukia worked as an analyst in applications support for the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District and previously held roles in the technology sector in both Australia and India.Family members started fundraising for wife Preetiben Dhadhukia seeking financial help for immediate expenses.
