Actress Swara Bhaskar on Monday alleged that her husband and political activist Fahad Ahmed was detained by Mumbai Police during a protest at Chaityabhoomi in Dadar along with other protesters. Claiming that he was being kept at Mahim police station, Bhaskar called the incident a “shameful situation”.

In a video shared by Bhaskar on Monday evening, Ahmed can be seen being taken away by the police. He is heard asking the officers, “Why are you arresting me?” The video was reportedly recorded around 4:30 pm on Monday evening.

Bhaskar wrote, “I received this video from @fahadzirarahmad on July 20, 2026 at 4:30 pm. He asked me to post it. Mumbai Police is allegedly attacking peaceful protesters at #Chaityabhoomi in Mumbai. People in solidarity please reach Chaityabhoomi peacefully and in large numbers.”

Several protesters who had gathered at Chaityabhoomi in support of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest were detained by the Mumbai Police on Monday, sources said. Some protesters were also reportedly injured during the police crackdown, although the exact number of those detained or injured has not been confirmed.

The detention in Mumbai came as CJP led the ‘Sansad Chalo’ protest in Delhi, which was attended by thousands of protesters. Actors Shabana Azmi and Prakash Raj were among those who joined the protests in the national capital along with CJP leader Abhijit Dupke and other protesters.

Both protests unfolded on the same day, including police action at the Chaityabhoomi site in Mumbai and a large crowd taking part in a march towards Parliament in Delhi.

Actress Swara Bhaskar and activist Fahadh Ahmed registered their marriage under the Special Marriage Act on January 6, 2023.
