Actress Swara Bhaskar has reacted to a post shared by a food blogger on X (formerly Twitter). The food blogger posted a picture of a plate full of vegetarian food – a dish made of fried rice and paneer. The text attached to the post read, “I am proud to be a vegetarian. My plate is free of tears, cruelty and guilt.” Reacting to the post, Swara Bhaskar said, “Honestly… I don’t understand this complacency of vegetarians. Your entire diet is made up of depriving a calf of its mother’s milk, forcibly impregnating cows and then separating them from their babies and stealing their milk. Do you eat root vegetables? It kills the entire plant! Please refrain from performing virtue just because it’s Bakrid!”

I agree. Vegetarianism also involves cruelty to animals. Even plants have life.
So it depends on personal choice. There is no moral or ethical issue involved in this.
Let us not judge others. Let us be at peace with ourselves for the choices we make.

“It’s important to respect everyone’s dietary choices. Be it meat or plant-based, each choice has its own significance. Let’s focus on understanding and appreciating the diversity of food cultures rather than judging or criticising others. Eid Mubarak and happy eating and drinking to all,” one comment read.

One person said, “It’s important to respect everyone’s dietary choices and acknowledge the ethical motivations behind them. Most vegans adopt their diets to minimise harm to animals and reduce the impact on the environment. While no diet is flawless, the aim is to work towards reducing suffering and advocating for sustainability. Instead of criticising, let’s focus on understanding and respecting diverse viewpoints…”
