Super Mario Galaxy Movie is doing great at the box office. The animated feature film had a huge global debut of US$372.6 million in its first weekend. The film managed to surpass the US$358.2 million opening weekend of Frozen 2, but fell behind the US$375.6 million of its prequel, The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Thus, the latest Hollywood film emerged as the fifth biggest weekend opener ever for an animated film. It became the only franchise whose two installments opened to a massive opening of over US$300 million.

The top spot among the biggest animation openers of all time is Zootopia 2, which opened to US$560.3 million at the worldwide box office. Jha 2 retained its second position with an opening of US$431.3 million, followed by Moana 2 with US$389.3 million.
