Actor Suniel Shetty has reacted to the ongoing issue don 3 controversy, throwing its weight behind Ranveer Singh and questioning calls to ban the actor. Speaking during the promotion of welcome to the jungleShetty said he could not understand why anyone would want to punish an actor who, according to him, has generated revenues of around Rs 3,500 crore for the Hindi film industry.

Demanding a ban, Shetty said, “Who are you to ban? Try and understand that this kid has given Rs 3,500 crore of revenue to the industry. Why would you want to ban him? If you ban something that people want to watch, what are you really trying to achieve?” His comments come as alleged differences over Ranveer Singh’s exit don 3 Continues to dominate the industry conversation.

Can an actor be banned from working?

Shetty also rejected the idea that any person or organization could stop an actor from working. in an interview with Times NowHe said, “No one can ban actors, no one can ban art. No one has the right to do that. The Supreme Court will dismiss the case in a second.”

Reports claim that Excel Entertainment had demanded around Rs 45 crore from Ranveer Singh to recover the pre-production costs after he left the film. What initially appeared to be creative differences between actor and director Farhan Akhtar later escalated into a wider industry dispute over compensation and contractual obligations.

The situation worsened after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued non-cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh. The actor later sent a legal notice to the organisation, in which his legal team argued that the organization had no legal authority to ban an artiste.

How was the dispute resolved?

Supporting Ranveer Singh, Shetty expressed confidence that the matter can be resolved through talks. He said that he is confident that Farhan Akhtar and the actor will eventually resolve their differences through discussion.

The impasse was later resolved following the mediation of the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA), following which FWICE withdrew its non-cooperation directive. While the immediate controversy has been resolved, Shetty’s comments have given new impetus to the conversation around artistic freedom, industry regulations and the treatment of actors in Bollywood.
