Suhas’ ‘Hey Bhagwan’ renamed as Hey Balwant after censor objection
Actor Suhas’ comedy faced a last-minute title change following censor objection. That’s why Hey Bhagwan became Hey Balwant just a few days before its release.

Actor Suhas’ upcoming comedy has undergone a dramatic last-minute change. Just four days before its scheduled theatrical release on February 20, Oh God! retitled O mighty one! Following objections from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
The certification body has reportedly expressed concern over the use of the word “God” and suggested that it could hurt religious sentiments. Rather than risk delays or lengthy back-and-forth, the producers opted for a rapid name change – while ensuring that the release calendar remained intact. In today’s environment, compliance often wins out over confrontation.
Why did CBFC object to the original title?
The objection focused on the religious connotations of “Bhagavan”, which translates as “Lord”. Given the film’s comedic tone, executives felt the title might invite controversy or misinterpretation.
Although no cuts have been reported in the content, the title itself became a point of issue. The production team chose pragmatism rather than protest and announced the change with joy: “The title changed. The entertainment remained unchanged.”
Will changing the title affect the discussion of the film?
Unlikely. Whatever it may be, the controversy has increased curiosity. Directed by debutant Gopi Achra, Hey Balwant revolves around a young man and his father’s mysterious business ventures. Veteran actor VK Naresh plays the father, while Shivani Nagaram stars opposite Suhas. Comedians Vennela Kishore, Sudarshan and Annapurnamma add to the group.
The makers had already started talks with a unique pre-release campaign, offering prize money to those who could guess the nature of Naresh’s character’s occupation.
What is the film promising to the audience?
According to Atchara, the film is a clean family entertainer full of confusion-inspired humor and emotional payoffs. He has clarified that the story completely avoids controversial topics.
Interestingly, this is another recent example of a Telugu film revising its title due to certification concerns – indicating a more cautious approach within the industry.
For now, the message from the team is simple: The name may have changed, but the fun-filled show is still there.
