Elon Musk is a man with many enterprises. The tech billionaire leads EV maker Tesla, while also running SpaceX and his own AI startup, XAI. But it seems that Musk wants to go even further than this. After bringing cars, AI chatbots and even space exploration, Elon Musk may launch a smartphone in the future, but with a twist.

Elon Musk’s Starlink may work on smartphones in the future

One user on X commented that they would like to see a Starlink-branded phone. The user wrote, “How bad would a Starlink phone be?” Starlink is a satellite-based internet service operated by SpaceX. It consists of a network of hundreds of satellites in low-Earth orbit that can provide high-internet speeds to users. And it looks like in the future, users can also get phones from Starlink with internet connection.

Elon Musk replied to this comment. The tech billionaire claimed he was open to the idea. “At some point there is no question,” he said. However, Musk hinted that this potential device won’t be your typical smartphone.

Instead, the SpaceX boss indicated that such a Starlink-branded device would be more focused on delivering absolutely maximum performance with a focus on artificial intelligence. “It will be a very different device than existing phones. Fully optimized to run maximum performance/watt neural nets,” he said. Musk was likely referring to the neural processing units (NPUs) that are used to run on-device AI tasks.

This is not the first time Musk has hinted at launching another product line or venture. Just a week ago, the Tesla boss was said to be interested in acquiring European airline Ryanair, following an online dispute with the airline’s CEO. Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary called Musk an idiot for telling the low-cost carrier to install Starlink on its aircraft.
