Daisy Ridley diagnosed with autoimmune disorder, initially ignored symptoms
Hollywood actress Daisy Ridley has revealed that she suffers from Graves’ disease, an autoimmune disorder. The actress had earlier dismissed it as a side effect of her intense role in ‘Ridley’.

Actress Daisy Ridley revealed in a recent interview that she has Graves’ disease, an autoimmune disorder affecting the thyroid. The 32-year-old actress, best known for her role in the latest ‘Star Wars’ trilogy, has previously discussed her struggles with endometriosis and polycystic ovaries.
After filming the psychological thriller ‘Magpie’ in 2023, Ridley experienced fatigue and irritability, she revealed women’s HealthIn the film, she played Annette, a wife and mother struggling with her difficult relationships. Initially, she ignored her symptoms, which included a rapid heartbeat, weight loss, fatigue, and hand tremors. Ridley attributed them to the intensity of the role.
However, after a discussion with a doctor, she was diagnosed. “It was funny, I used to think, ‘Oh, I just thought I was upset with the world,’ but it turns out everything is moving so fast that you can’t keep calm,” she said.
Ridley stressed the importance of acknowledging symptoms, saying women often go undiagnosed or underdiagnosed. Already a vegetarian, she has reduced her intake of gluten and made other lifestyle changes since her diagnosis.
According to the European Thyroid Association, Graves’ disease is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism and is more likely to affect women than men. Other celebrities with the disease include rapper Missy Elliott and former US First Lady Barbara Bush.
