‘Sorry’: Viral video shows how Indian woman confronts Bangladeshi waiter over anti-India remarks in Italy

In Italy, a group of Indian women stood in front of a waiter using objectionable abuses, police intervened.

A heated debate at a restaurant in Italy has gone viral after an Indian woman and her friends confronted a waiter over anti-India comments and demanded he apologize.The incident was shared on Instagram by influencer Khushi Dubey, who posts under the handle @khshicupcake5.In a video titled “This is what happened to us in Italy”, Dubey recorded a conversation with a waiter named Hussain, who made objectionable comments about India and Indian customers.The clip begins with an argument over the issue of payment, although it is unclear what led to the dispute. During the confrontation, the waiter can be heard saying: “Fuck, I’ll call the police.”The women objected to his tone. One of them responded: “You know what? Watch your language. We are women first, okay?”As the debate continued, Hussain turned his attention to the nationality of the group. At one point, he said: “You lead your country badly.” According to the video, one of Khushi’s friends sarcastically attempted to challenge her and replied, “That’s why we are from Bangladesh”.This debate soon became more heated. The waiter was then heard saying: “You are from India.”Another woman responded: “Mr. Hussein, be respectful. You should know how to respect women.”The comments upset the group. In the footage, Khushi can also be heard saying to her friends in Hindi: “Yaar give him the money and let’s go otherwise I will slap him.”Despite the confrontation, the women continued to challenge the waiter over his discriminatory and anti-India comments.Eventually, two Italian police officers arrived at the scene. In the presence of officers, the women said the waiter acknowledged his comments and made a proper apology.Hussain appeared reluctant and attempted to move on from the issue, but the group refused to end the matter without an apology.A woman told him, “No, sir, please say, I am sorry for abusing India.”Khushi urged him to apologise, saying, “Say, I’m sorry for abusing India.”When the waiter tried to avoid the discussion, the women continued to press him for accountability.One of them said, “You have to say this. It was you who said ‘I will call the police.’Following the incident, Dubey shared his views online, saying that the episode shows that Indians are sometimes unfairly portrayed or blamed when traveling abroad.Dubey wrote, “Every time it is not the Indians who are at fault, sometimes it is the people who discriminate against us. Always have respect for your country. Jai Hind.”
