Madhavan said that for him, loyalty is deeply rooted in his upbringing and family traditions.
“I think being loyal is a family trait. My entire family was so loyal to Jamsetji Tata till the end of his life that in fact we even have a photo of him with a rosary along with all the deities. So honestly, I would have to go out of my way not to be loyal.”
He said that despite working with many acclaimed co-stars, he has always valued his wife Saritha and the comfort of returning to his domestic life.
The actor also shared that Saritha has full access to his phone and financial accounts, and is actively involved in managing his finances.
Madhavan recalled filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s advice that during good times one should not test relationships unnecessarily.
“Mani Ratnam gave me a piece of advice on how not to judge relationships. He said, when something is going well in a relationship, don’t keep judging her to see how much she loves you. Just let it be. Sometimes judgment is the thing that ruins everything.”
She further recalled that even after gaining fame, she chose to be open about her marriage instead of hiding it, despite suggestions from some people in the industry.
“I used to open all my girl fan mail with Sarita. I used to insist on taking her for any foreign outdoor shoot, not because I wanted her to know that I was loyal, but I didn’t want to test myself.”
R Madhavan and Saritha got married in 1999 and are parents to their son Vedant Madhavan.
