Apple plans to make its personal assistant Siri even better. Although we don’t see progress with Apple Intelligence yet, the company plans to take it up a notch. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is working on an enhanced Siri that aims to compete with other major chatbots like ChatGPT. Since the revised Siri will use the Advanced Large Language Model, the project is currently named LLM Siri.

Apple is working on turning Siri into a more conversational and intelligent assistant. The goal is to enable Siri to engage in continuous conversations with users and respond in a more natural, human way. With the integration of larger language models, Siri will also be able to handle more complex tasks, which currently requires OpenAI’s ChatGPT in iOS 18.2.

As part of the iOS 18 update, Apple is enhancing Siri’s functionality through Apple Intelligence, which will improve Siri’s ability to manage tasks within and between apps. This innovation will serve as the foundation for the new version of Siri. Apple will employ first-generation large language models (LLMs) to assess user requests and determine whether the current Siri infrastructure can process them or whether more advanced LLMs should be used for complex queries.

The updated Siri is being tested in a standalone app on iPhone, iPad and Mac, and will eventually replace the existing version. Apple is expected to announce the new Siri during its Worldwide Developers Conference in June, coinciding with the launch of iOS 19 in early 2025. Although there will be early previews of the updated Siri, Apple is not planning to release it immediately. , The current goal is for full implementation by spring 2026, although this timeline may be subject to change depending on the progress of development.
