Singer Usha Uthup’s husband Jani Chacko Uthup (78) died of a heart attack at his home in Kolkata. His last rites will be performed on Tuesday.

Singer Usha Uthup’s husband Jani Chacko Uthup (78) died in Kolkata on Monday. He suffered a heart attack at home in the night.
According to a PTI report, Jani suffered a heart attack while watching TV. He was rushed to a hospital but doctors declared him dead.
Usha Uthup is survived by son Sunny and daughter Anjali. The singer was previously married to the late Ramu.
Jani Chacko, who worked in the Uthup tea plantation area, met Usha at the prestigious Trincas in the early 70s.
His last rites will be performed in Kolkata on Tuesday.
Anjali Uthup paid tribute to her late father on social media. She wrote, “Appa…gone too soon…but the way you lived was so stylish…the most handsome man in the world…we love you, you were a true gentleman and a Laurentian at heart and a great tea taster.”
Usha Uthup was honoured with the Padma Bhushan on the eve of the 75th Republic Day on January 25 this year. In an exclusive interview with IndiaToday.in, the singer expressed her gratitude to her family and the government for being honoured with this prestigious award.
The singer was discovered by Dev Anand, who gave her a break in Bollywood in 1971 with his film Hare Rama Hare Krishna. Some of her popular songs include “Hari Om Hari”, “Dosto Se Pyar Kiya”, “One Two Cha Cha Cha” and others.
