At least three students were injured in a shooting near the University of Iowa on Sunday morning, according to police.The Iowa City Police Department responded to the 100th block of East College Street in downtown Iowa City at approximately 1:46 a.m. (US local time) after receiving a report of a large fight. Officers arriving at the scene heard gunshots.The circumstances surrounding the dispute remain unclear. Video circulating on social media shows a confrontation involving a large group, with several people punching and kicking others, while bystanders urge them to stop. Additional video shows a large crowd fleeing the scene after the shooting.First responders reported at least four people injured by gunfire, according to scanner traffic recordings provided by Broadcastify, NBC News reports. Police said several victims were taken to local hospitals, but the total number of injured could not be confirmed.A spokesperson for University of Iowa Health Care confirmed that patients from the incident have been received and are being evaluated, but did not provide an update on their conditions.In a statement, University of Iowa President Barbara Wilson confirmed that three students were injured. The university has also issued an alert urging people to stay away from this area. “While we wait for additional information, I am thinking of these students and their families, friends and everyone who cares about them,” Wilson said. “I hold my thoughts with you as well as all those in our community who are hurting or feeling numb at this time.“No arrests have been made, and police are asking anyone with information to contact the department.
