Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan has dominated the industry for decades, enthralling audiences not only with his stellar acting skills but also with his distinctive baritone voice. Interestingly, actor Sheeba Akashdeep Sabir recently shared a surprising anecdote about the late Sunil Dutt, who was initially not fond of Big B’s now-iconic voice. He revealed that because of this he cast her in a silent role for his film. He also recalled his father-in-law’s thoughts and how he found his loud voice unusual at that time.
During an interview with Siddharth Kannan on his YouTube channel, actor Sheeba Akashdeep Sabir narrated an interesting story related to his initial impression of the now famous deep voice of late Sunil Dutt and Amitabh Bachchan. He revealed that Dutt did not particularly like his baritone and as a result, he was given a silent role in the 1971 film Reshma Aur Shera.
The Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani actress also shared a story about her father-in-law’s experience with Amitabh Bachchan and remembering him, said, “Ek hero aata tha hamare ghar mein aur aake mere jodon mein baitha tha. We wondered what kind of sound it had, resonating.
He further revealed that Sunil Dutt had expressed his dislike for the actor’s voice and compared it to that of a radio jockey. He said, “Dutt saab (Sunil Dutt) told me, ‘We hate his voice.'” As a result, Amitabh Bachchan was cast in a silent role in Dutt’s film.
He noted that the irony was that the same baritone voice that is now iconic was not appreciated at the time, and many failed to recognize that it would eventually become more prominent than the actor himself.
Earlier, Big B had sought legal action in the Delhi High Court to protect his unique voice from unauthorized use. The actor launched a lawsuit aimed at protecting his name, voice and image from being exploited without his consent for promotional purposes. The court later issued an interim injunction, barring any violation of his publicity rights as a star.
On the professional front, Amitabh Bachchan, who initially rose to fame as the ‘Angry Young Man’ in the 1970s, has established a lasting legacy through his memorable performances. Her latest projects include roles in Naga Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD and Vettaiyaan. He is currently hosting the sixteenth season of Kaun Banega Crorepati.
