Shakti Kapoor may be remembered today as one of the most iconic villains of Hindi cinema, but his journey in negative roles was not easy to be accepted domestically. In a recent interview, the veteran actor revealed how his parents were very upset after watching one of his early villain performances, even while walking out of the theatre, not knowing that these were the roles that would define his legendary career.

He told, “When my two big films were released and another big film was released called Insaniyat Ke Dushman, I told my parents to go and watch the film. Both my parents went to see it. However, when the film started, my first scene showed me pulling a girl’s dupatta.”

This scene clearly upset his parents. “My father immediately told my mother to get up and leave the theatre. She said, ‘He used to do this outside and now he is doing this on the big screen too. Look what he is doing. I don’t want to watch this film,'” Shakthi recalled.

After returning home, his parents did not stop their disappointment. “He called me and scolded me. What kind of roles are you doing? And see who you are doing such things with? He told me that I should play the roles of a good person and work with actors like Hema Malini and Zeenat Aman. Why are you doing such roles?” GoonHe said.

However, Shakti Kapoor explained that after years of struggle, he could not move away from the roles that were finally gaining him recognition. He said honestly, “I told them that you have given birth to me and you have given me this face. After seeing this face, no one is giving me the role of a good person or a hero.”
