Shahrukh waives Rs 42 lakh for Deol’s Band 2; Marathi film earned Rs 80 crore
Filmmaker Praveen Tarde said that Shah Rukh Khan asked Red Chillies Entertainment to waive the pending DCP dues for Deul Band 2 before its release. This gesture helped the Marathi film reach theaters despite budget constraints and is now being remembered after its box-office success.

According to filmmaker Praveen Tarde, the actor asked his company Red Chillies Entertainment to waive off around Rs 42 lakh in dues related to the film’s Digital Cinema Package (DCP), which helped the makers release the film at the crucial stage. The film has so far earned more than Rs 80 crore at the box office.

talking to elite marathi filmyTarde recalled that the team had initially budgeted around Rs 12 lakh for the DCP process, but only received an estimate of around Rs 42 lakh. DCP is the format required to display films in theatres.
Tarde said, “The bill came to Rs 42 lakh. We did not have that much money, nor did we have any source from where we could arrange it. We approached Red Chillies and explained our situation. We told them that it was a Marathi film, a regional film and our budget was limited. But we wanted to release it on a large scale and we requested their support.” He said the amount waived was between Rs 42-45 lakh.
The filmmaker said that the matter eventually reached Shah Rukh Khan, who inquired about the project before taking the decision. Tarde claimed that Khan’s team informed him that the film was being made by the team behind mulshi patternA project the actors were familiar with because it was later remade Antim. After learning more about deul band 2, including the fact that the producers could not afford the DCP fees despite the package being ready, Khan allegedly intervened.
Tarde said that Shahrukh’s reaction was immediate. “He just said, ‘Forgive their bill.’ He told them, ‘This is a Marathi film. He was named DCP. Give it. We can settle the payments later. If it is a good film, give him DCP. He showed tremendous respect towards Marathi cinema. For him the film was more important than money. I give credit to all these people for the success of the film.”
He further said that Shahrukh extended his support at a time when no one knew whether the film would be commercially successful or not. Tarde said this deul band 2 is now moving towards the Rs 100 crore mark and receiving widespread appreciation, Khan’s willingness to help when there was no guarantee of the project’s success will always be remembered. Describing this gesture as priceless, he said that he would be grateful to the actor and hoped to screen the film for him in person someday.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, deul band 2 has so far earned around Rs 81.78 crore at the Indian box office. The spiritual sequel to the 2015 film is written and directed by Praveen Tarde. It stars Snehal Tarde in the lead role, while veteran actor Mohan Joshi is reprising his role of Swami Samarth from the original film. The story deals with farmers’ suicide and explores the relationship between faith and atheism, while its dramatic presentation now matches Tarde’s description of the help the film received before its release.
