President Draupadi Murmu posthumously awarded the Padma Shri to actor Satish Shah, with his cousin Arvind Mamania accepting it on his behalf. The honor drew an emotional reaction from his family and colleagues, who said they wished he had received it himself.

Actor Satish Shah was posthumously awarded the Padma Shri on Tuesday for his contribution to Indian cinema and entertainment. President Draupadi Murmu presented the honor during the second civilian investiture ceremony of the Padma Awards 2026 at Rashtrapati Bhavan, with Shah’s cousin Arvind Mamania receiving the award on his behalf.
Shah was among the recipients named from the fields of arts, education, sports and other subjects. Mammootty, Alka Yagnik and R Madhavan were also felicitated at the ceremony held in New Delhi. The President presented a total of 65 Padma awards, including two Padma Vibhushan, seven Padma Bhushan and 56 Padma Shri, according to an official statement, which was also attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

talking to htc Before the ceremony, Mamania said the family was still struggling to come to terms with Shah’s death. He said, “We have still not recovered from the shock (of his death). Seeing his wife every day reminds us what kind of person he was. Our house was full of laughter and smiles, now suddenly the happiness has disappeared. It is a big void. We are taking care of her (Madhu Shah, Satish’s wife), she is also precious to us.”
Mamania further explained why he accepted the honor from Shah. He called Shah “like a brother” and said that the late actor’s wife was unable to attend the ceremony due to health problems. He said that the family wished that Manyata would receive the recognition while Shah was alive and hoped that he would keep an eye on her. He also revealed that they will be hosting a small celebration in Mumbai to celebrate the honour.
Shah’s co-stars Rupali Ganguly and Deven Bhojani also paid tribute to him on social media.
Sharing a video related to the honour, Bhojani wrote, “We are very proud but miss you a lot Satish ji. I wish you yourself were there to receive the honour!”
Re-sharing the same post on his account, Ganguly wrote, “I wish he himself was there to get it, most deserving but a little late… Kaka.”
Shah died after collapsing at his Mumbai home during lunch in October 2025. He was taken to Hinduja Hospital, where doctors could not save him. His last rites were performed at Vile Parle on Sunday morning, where many of his colleagues and friends from the industry paid their last respects.

His career spanned more than four decades. A graduate of the Indian Film and Television Institute, Shah was known for his range in situational comedy and as a character actor.
