In short

  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 can replace titanium with carbon fiber
  • The S Penn Support can return with a thin Pisetiser in the test
  • Company search for new stylus tech and lighter backplate materials

Samsung is rethinking some of the materials used for its upcoming foldable phones – especially the Galaxy Z Fold 8, is expected to be launched next year. According to a report from Thelec, The company is currently testing both titanium and carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) for the internal backplate of the phone. This may look like a small technical change, but it can have a major impact on the refund of durability, thickness and even much awaited S Pen support. And this time, Samsung’s decision cannot only be about design – it can come on issues of global material supply, especially around the titanium.

In recent years, Samsung has used separate materials for its Galaxy Z fold lineup based on model and whether the phone contains S pen support. A device such as Z fold from Galaxy Z fold 3 used CFRP, mainly due to the need to adjust digitiser – an ingredient that allows for s pen input. On the other hand, the new Galaxy Z fold 7, which did not support S Pen, used titanium for its backplate. The titanium is light, strong, and helps reduce overall thickness. But Samsung is now keeping its options open, with potentially affecting the titanium supply chain with trade tension between the US and China.

If the CFRP returns to the Galaxy Z fold 8, it may be an indication that Samsung S Penn is planning to resume support. It is already a matter of developing a thinner digitiser for the Samsung fold series, which can allow for S pen compatibility without adding too much thickness. And given that the Galaxy Note and S Ultra users still love their stylus, it can be a welcome return – especially if Samsung productivity finds a way to make times more practical for users.

Interestingly, Samsung is also called the discovery of new stylus input techniques. While the Guna series trusted the EMR (electro magnetic resonance) for the first S pen support, now there is a possibility of switching to the AES (active electrostatic solution) – the same technique that is used by Apple’s pencil. This change can allow for efficiency like S Pen without a built -in digitiser, possibly Samsung helped to keep the phone thin while offering stylus inputs.

The Samsung display is also looking at the alternative backplate content including glass. The glass is lighter and cheap, but it remains to be seen whether it can provide the structural support required in a foldable device.
