The new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra has arrived in our office and it’s time to unbox it. The phone comes with a (3A) USB-C cable in a plain box. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is available in Graphite, Cream and Violet shadows. Samsung.com’s exclusive fourth color is called Green Shadow.
You can get it in 12/256GB or 12/512GB configurations; The prices are €2,200 and €2,400 respectively.
You shouldn’t judge the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra by its specifications or the way it looks on a webpage. Half the charm of these folding phones is that they feel different from your regular slab phones. And the Galaxy Z Fold7 was the first Samsung foldable that actually feels futuristic — much thinner and somehow more premium, even special. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra keeps all that.
It feels amazing in hands. It’s square on all sides and feels slim and expertly put together.
It’s not just a physical thing – Samsung’s One UI is the perfect companion to the elegant exterior.
Internal display is less reflective, has less creases
Still, it’s important to look at the hardware as well. Despite the addition of “Ultra” to its name, it is simply a successor to the Galaxy Z Fold7. No real ultra-level features have been added this year.
The new thing is the larger 5,000mAh battery – a significant upgrade from last year’s model’s 4,400mAh. Even better, it weighs the same 215 grams. This has something to do with the power pack being Samsung’s first silicon carbon (Si-C) unit.
Let’s say you’re interested in all things foldables and you like Samsung’s latest. Then the question becomes which one to take? The smaller and squarer Galaxy Z Fold8 offers something that no other manufacturer (at least with Samsung’s global scope) offers yet (unless Apple unveils its own foldable and can put it on store shelves).
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, on the other hand, is a safer option – a regular phone when off and a multitasking powerhouse when needed. You don’t need to make any compromises with the Ultra, nor adopt any new form factors.

If you are more interested in content consumption then this robust foldable is interesting and could make a lot of sense. This has sparked some debate here at GSMArena HQ as to whether it has the better overall form factor. It is more comfortable to type on a virtual keyboard on a square screen. Once opened, this folding screen is a better fit for both images and normal 16:9 video on your phone.
