Samsung has described the new Galaxy Z series as “the most complete lineup yet”, which reveals something that was missing until now. And that thing is the wide foldable which will be known only as Galaxy Z Fold8. It’s important to note that this is not a successor to the Z Fold7 – instead it will be the Z Fold8 Ultra.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Splits the difference between the flip and the original fold form factors. The Z Flip8 has a 4.1″ cover display, the Z Fold8 has a 5.5″ cover display and the Z Fold8 Ultra has the largest cover display at 6.5″.
When closed, the Z Fold8 looks almost pristine – the portrait 5.5″ display with a 10:16 aspect ratio makes it seem as if mini phones don’t exist. It’s quite wide at 81.9 mm, but the top of its screen is easily accessible since the phone is only 123.9 mm long. When folded, it’s 9.7 mm thick and weighs 201 grams. In landscape orientation, you It gets a 16:10 aspect ratio which is common in laptops and tablets (for example the Tab S11 Ultra) and is also suitable for watching videos and gaming.
When unfolded, the Z Fold8 offers a 4:3 7.6″ display. It’s a perfect fit for photos, which are 4:3 by default, and it’s also great for text-based uses like reading documents, books, or text-heavy websites.
Here are some more details on the display. The cover panel is an LTPO OLED (1-120Hz) with a 1,248 x 1,972px resolution. The internal display is another LTPO OLED panel (1-120Hz) with 1,848 x 2,448px. It can reach 3,000 nits and has a low-reflection coating. The pixel density of both is the same at 428ppi and 403ppi respectively.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 promises the best of both worlds – the 3:4 display is great for reading documents, books, and text-heavy sites, while the 16:10 display is great for videos, gaming, and scrolling through social media.
The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for the Galaxy which we have already seen with the Galaxy S26 series. This is paired with 12GB of RAM on the 256GB and 512GB models, and 16GB on the 1TB model.
The phone runs on a 4,800mAh battery – which is larger than the 4,400mAh battery on the Z Fold7. It supports 45W fast charging (63% in 30 minutes) and 20W wireless charging (with reverse wireless charging).
The camera setup is closer to the Z Flip than the Z Fold Ultra. It has a 50MP main sensor (1.0μm pixels) with an f/1.8 lens, OIS, and 2x in-sensor zoom. The ultra-wide camera also has a 50MP sensor (0.7μm pixels) and an f/1.9 120° lens. There are two 10MP selfie cameras (1.12μm pixels, f/2.2). The one with the cover display has an 85° lens, while the one on the inside display has a wider 100° lens.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra That puts Samsung’s larger book-style foldable in the same category as the S26 Ultra. And yes, the “Ultra” tag comes with a focus on camera hardware. The phone has a 200MP main (0.6µm pixels, f/1.7, OIS) with advanced HDR capabilities. It can record 8K video with the APV codec and lets you use Cine LUTs directly on the phone.

It upgrades the ultra-wide camera with a new 50MP sensor (0.7µm, f/1.9, 120° FoV) that captures sharp landscape photos and can get closer for macro photography.
The telephoto camera unfortunately sticks to a 10MP sensor (1.0µm) and a 3x f/2.4 lens with OIS. There are also two 10MP selfie cameras – one on the cover display with an 85° lens and one with a 100° lens inside (both have 1.12μm pixel size and f/2.2 aperture).
Like its sibling above, the Ultra will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for the Galaxy in all markets. The chipset now benefits from expanded graphite sheets to dissipate heat more effectively. The phone is configured with 12GB of RAM on the 256GB and 512GB models, and 16GB on the 1TB model.
Like its predecessor (Z Fold7), the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is 72.8 mm wide and 8.9 mm thick when closed. It feels slightly thinner when opened, now measuring 4.1mm. Its weight is the same as before, 215 grams.
These measurements hide one significant upgrade – the battery capacity has increased to 5,000mAh, which is about 14% more than the 4,400mAh battery of the 2025 model. And it supports fast 45W charging (up from 25W), charging up to 67% in 30 minutes. Wireless charging has also been increased and now does 20W (it also offers reverse wireless charging). Samsung demos a “new dual-path charging architecture,” though we’re not sure what it is — but we’ll be testing it.
Both the Z Fold8 and Z Fold8 Ultra launch with Android 17 and One UI 9. These have Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0 support. The phone has been given IP48 rating for dust and water resistance. Ultra can be had in graphite, cream and violet shadows. Samsung.com’s exclusive fourth color is called Green Shadow.
A major change in this generation is Flex Titanium technology, which combines a titanium-alloy film with an advanced titanium plate. This strengthens the display and helps it absorb impact and pressure, as well as making it more resilient to wear and tear that creates a crease in the middle. The sophisticated hinge design makes the phone feel comfortable and light when opened.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra are available for pre-order starting today. They come with a 6-month trial of Google AI Pro – this includes 5TB of cloud storage and normally costs $20 per month.
