The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is set to launch tomorrow, featuring its new built-in privacy display technology.

Samsung is set to launch the Galaxy S26 series on February 25. The lineup is expected to have three models and one of the models, presumably the top-end Galaxy S26 Ultra, will come with never-before-seen features. It will come with what Samsung is calling a “privacy display.” The company has been teasing this feature for some time. The feature is apparently so exciting that Samsung’s Chinese rivals – Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and their ilk – are reportedly exploring adopting it in their upcoming flagship devices.

What is Samsung’s privacy display feature?

Privacy Display is an upcoming feature from Samsung that will allow smartphone users to keep their phones away from prying eyes. People usually put third-party screen protectors – tempered glass – on their phones for this purpose but Samsung is said to be putting this technology at the hardware level. The technology is called “Flex Magic Pixel” and will reportedly be exclusive to the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The standard S26 and S26 Plus likely won’t get it, but we can’t say for sure yet.

This feature has also been widely leaked on the internet, its settings will be toggled allowing users to turn it on and off as per their need and convenience. Additionally, it is said that Samsung will allow granular controls so that users can turn it on for specific tasks and apps, such as when using UPI. Anyone looking from an angle, or trying to peek, that is not direct will see a dark screen and they will not be able to see what the user is doing.

Chinese flagships may also adopt similar technology

A recent post by tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo claims that the upcoming Chinese flagship smartphone launching around September could have similar privacy performance capabilities. According to the leak, manufacturers in China may also rely on display-level hardware solutions like Samsung’s to mitigate off-angle visibility.

So far, no brand has officially confirmed plans to adopt such technology. Many major Chinese companies are expected to unveil their flagship products around September. If the rumor turns out to be true, we could see upcoming devices like the Xiaomi 18 or the Vivo X500 series with similar display features. Companies like OnePlus, Honor and Oppo may also add a similar feature to the hardware of their devices.

If that wasn’t enough, it is also rumored that Apple will bring this type of technology to future MacBooks.
