On Sunday, January 19, 2025, Mumbai Police arrested a suspect in the Saif Ali Khan case from Thane, identified as Mohammed Shariful Islam Shahzad, initially believed to be a Bangladeshi national. After his arrest, he was produced in the court, where the police gave him five days’ custody. However, his lawyer claimed that “the police have no evidence that he is Bangladeshi.”
Sandeep Shekhane, lawyer of Mohammed Shariful Islam Shahzad, accused in the Saif Ali Khan attack case, said that the court has granted 5 days police custody and directed the police to submit a report within this period.
Shekhane argued that the accused’s claim of being a Bangladeshi lacked evidence and rejected the statement that he had arrived six months ago, instead claiming that Shehzad had been living in Mumbai with his family for more than seven years. I am living in. He also alleged violation of Section 43A, citing lack of proper investigation.

The accused’s lawyer said that Saif Ali Khan has never made any statement or complaint to anyone that could pose a threat against him, be it from Bangladesh or any other country.
He further said that there is no international matter related to Saif. Shekhane claimed that the focus of the case has shifted due to the nationality of the accused, as he is actually Bangladeshi but has been living in India with his family for a long time. He also said that the accused’s friends support him, but his family did not attend due to fear.
