Sadhguru’s taste test with The Vampire Diaries’ Ian Somerhalder leaves fans in awe
Ian Somerhalder sits down with Sadhguru for a conversation on life, soil and regenerative agriculture, followed by a blind taste test. Their unexpected crossover, fueled by light-hearted banter, drew amusing reactions on social media.

Spiritual leader Sadhguru recently joined the Vampire Diaries Actor Ian Somerhalder to speak on life, sustainability and agriculture, with many on social media saying they didn’t see it coming. The two also took part in a taste test, trying to tell the difference between organically grown produce and crops grown using fertilizers.
On Wednesday, Ian shared a teaser reel from the conversation on Instagram and gave followers a glimpse of the exchange. The full hour-long conversation is set to premiere on YouTube on June 5. Along with the video, Ian wrote, “Turns out Sadhguru knows a thing or two. Had a chance to sit down with him and talk life, soil, regenerative agriculture and real solutions to one of the biggest crises facing us. The full video is live now on Sadhguru’s YouTube and the 1-hour conversation will premiere on June 5th #SaveSoil @consciousplanet (sic).”

The video features several light-hearted moments as Ian and Sadhguru test their taste buds with produce from a variety of farms. “We’re going to try two different types of food, some from local farms and some from commercial supermarkets,” Ian says in the clip. Sadhguru then corrects him, saying, “Neither food comes from a supermarket. Both come from farms. One is organically-rich, and the other is fertilizer-rich.”
During the taste test, they sampled blueberries, tomatoes, strawberries and carrots. Sadhguru was also given cucumber, but he refused to eat it after sunset. In the video, the two identify the difference between organic produce and crops grown with fertilizer.
At the end of the conversation, Ian says, “Organic matter defines the health of the soil.” Sadhguru replies, “This is very important. If you say it is 4% organic soil, I will decide for my child what kind of apple my child should eat. Now, if it costs a little more, I don’t mind paying because instead of eating 4 apples, 1 apple is good enough.”
The video ends on a humorous note, with Ian joking that he is taking Sadhguru on a date to McDonald’s. Sadhguru replied, “Why aren’t you taking me to the whiskey factory?”, which made both of them laugh.
The meeting also drew a wave of amusing reactions online. One user wrote, “What is this multiverse?”, while another said, “Not the collaboration I dreamed of in my imagination”.
Other reactions included, “This wasn’t on my 2026 bingo card”, “Bru unexpected coolallaab”, “Damon Salvatore and Sadhguru? Hell yes”,
