Russia fuel crisis: Russians urged to work from home amid fuel crisis

Authorities in Russia’s Novosibirsk region have urged residents to work remotely and limit travel by car, amid a deepening fuel crisis caused by Ukrainian attacks on oil refineries.Home to approximately 3 million people, the region is one of Siberia’s largest centers by population and is a major economic and manufacturing hub. The announcement comes after Ukraine attacked an oil refinery in the neighboring region of Omsk earlier this week, shutting down one of Russia’s largest oil processing facilities by capacity.More than 90% of Russian regions have experienced fuel shortages since June, according to local media reports and officials, with some of them introducing rationing at petrol stations and banning filling of jerry cans.In an order dated Wednesday, but published by Russian media on Friday, the Novosibirsk government recommended employers “to allow employees to work remotely and reduce fuel consumption.” Ukraine has targeted Russian oil infrastructure in retaliation for attacks on its civilians during the four-and-a-half-year war.(AFP)
