Rs 84 in account, no auto fare: How did Dhurandhar’s Gaurav Gera survive the days of struggle?

Despite the recent success of the film and its sequel, Gera reveals how those lean years kept him grounded and why he deliberately avoids letting his revived popularity go to his head. in an interview with gistThe 52-year-old actor recalled his journey in acting, his family’s support and his financial struggles after moving to Mumbai.

Speaking about his family’s support, Gera said, “My father is an engineer from IIT-BHU, brother is a software engineer, but nothing was imposed on me. I am grateful for this (My father is an engineer from IIT-BHU, and my brother is a software engineer, but no pressure was put on me. I’m grateful for that).”
The actor also opened up about his financial struggles after moving to Mumbai. “84 rupees in my account. I used to pass by HDFC Bank and look at the bank and say, ‘Take care of me.’ I used to bow my head to the bank while coming and going. (I had only Rs 84 in my account. I used to pass by some bank and jokingly ask the bank to take care of me),” Gera added.
He recalled how his father supported him despite limited means. “Papa was a salaried person. I still have his letters where it was written, ‘I am sending Rs 2,000, not more than that’ (My father was a salaried employee. I still have his letters where he wrote that he was sending Rs 2,000, and that was all he could spend),” Gera said.
Recalling that period of his life, the actor revealed that he never felt like a heavy burden while going through difficulties. He told that whenever he lacked money for an auto, he preferred to walk. Driven by self-respect, he focused solely on his long-term goal, noting that he always wanted to be “someone who gives, not takes.”
Gera played the character of Mohammad Alam alias Alam Bhai in it stalwart The film series, starring actors Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, Sanjay Dutt, Manav Gohil and Danish Pandor in lead roles.
