Many old and new characters come together in Singham Again, the latest installment of the cop universe. Deepika Padukone has been introduced as Shakti Shetty aka Lady Singham. Now director Rohit Shetty has given an update on the standalone film starring Deepika. He shared that he didn’t yet know where he could go with the concept he had in mind.
In a recent conversation with News18 Shosha, Rohit Shetty revealed why it took so long to introduce a female policewoman in his cinematic universe. In response, Rohit shared that he was waiting for the right script and launch for the character. He even said that he was not sure about there being a Cop Universe until 2018. Rohit mentioned that the idea of introducing a female policewoman came to him during the making of the Akshay Kumar starrer Sooryavanshi.
Talking about the standalone film with Deepika Padukone, Rohit said that it has not been written yet. He added, “We have a concept in mind but we don’t know where we can go with it.” The filmmaker said that it will take time.
About the character Shakti Shetty, Rohit revealed, “I know what the character will be like and what her origin story will be, but as a director or writer I don’t know her entire journey yet.”
He insisted that a film would definitely be made with Lady Singham in the lead, otherwise she would not have been introduced into the universe. Rohit mentioned that there was a reason behind focusing on his character in the latest film Singham Again.
In 2023, Rohit Shetty released the first look of Deepika Padukone as Lady Singham. In the caption, he wrote, “Woman is the form of Sita ka bhi aur Durga ka bhi… (Woman is the form of Sita and Durga too). Meet the most cruel and violent officer of our police world… Shakti Shetty… my Lady Singham… Deepika Padukone.
The cast of Singham Again also includes Ajay Devgan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, Arjun Kapoor and Jackie Shroff. The film is currently running in theatres.
