He said, “If you look, Hamza has done as many bad things as the so-called bad guys in the film. You are taking the perspective of ‘we are Indians and they are Pakistanis’. But if you take all of us as human beings, they are all stuck in a situation.”
Dhurandhar: RGV on The Revenge vs War 2
Varma criticized recent big budget films for showing action sequences where the heroes appear unaffected by pain, in contrast to the actual emotions shown. Dhurandhar 2. While he did not mention war 2He mentioned a big budget action film starring two actors.
“In recent times, without naming the film, two big stars are fighting in a big budget film, and I don’t see any expressions on their faces. This guy throws punches, but there is no impact because they are heroes, they are supermen. They should not feel pain like any normal human being because they want to protect their star image for their fans or for whatever reason.”
Highlighting the scene where Major Iqbal stabs Hamza, Verma said that he had never seen the pain on Singh’s face portrayed so realistically. He compared it to Leonardo DiCaprio’s performance in the 2008 Hollywood thriller body of Lies. “When Major Iqbal stabs Hamza at the end, I have never seen pain as real as the one I saw on Ranveer Singh’s face. The last time I saw a glimpse of that was Leonardo DiCaprio body of Lies,” RGV added.
How Ranveer Singh gave right direction to pain
According to Varma, showing the heroes as vulnerable and human makes them more heroic than typical pan-Indian action stars. He said that although the story follows the familiar pattern of a hero making sacrifices for his country, the respect and realism given to the characters makes the film different.
“So, a man who can bleed, feel pain and cry can be an even bigger hero than most traditional pan-Indian heroes. To me, that’s the biggest change. The story is very traditional, a hero working towards a lofty goal for his country, sacrificing everything. There are a lot of such films being made. But the difference here is that with the dignity, respect and humanity with which Aditya Dhar has treated them, none of them look larger than life. But they feel larger than life. The characters are not artificial creations, they are grey,” he adds.
