RGV calls Dhurandhar 2 ‘horror’ for filmmakers, criticizes over-the-top action cinema

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has sparked debate with a recent post on X (formerly Twitter) praising the film Dhurandhar: Revenge Sharply criticizing mainstream commercial cinema and its established formats.

He added that Dhurandhar 2 “will horrify those who have built their careers on action sets where physics is a joke and gravity is non-existent.” He described scenes where characters are thrown high into the air, survive massive explosions, and deliver punchy dialogue as being dated and unlikely to appeal to new audiences.
Although Varma did not name anyone directly, his comments have sparked speculation about the filmmaker who is known for stylish, high-octane action.
The filmmaker also praised actor Ranveer Singh and said Dhurandhar 2 Marks a change from invincible heroes. He wrote, “Ranveer kills all those heroes who never bleed or feel pain. Over their dead bodies, he gives birth to a real hero – flawed, dangerous, unpredictable – whose heroism comes from his actions.”

Verma credited director Aditya Dhar for challenging the old story. he called Dhurandhar 2 “Not just a film. This is a decision that has decapitated the kind of cinema that made heroes gods and audiences sheep.”
He said that the film’s box office success would force filmmakers to reconsider their approach. “If they don’t go back to the drawing board and ‘extinguish’ themselves by looking at Dhurandhar 2Even God can’t save their souls,” he warned. Varma’s use of the word “souls” has attracted attention online, with some reading it as a subtle reference to upcoming projects like Atma, although he did not explicitly mention any films.
