Iran has made a “friendly suggestion” to Europe to tackle its deadly heat, saying it is ready to export air conditioners and cooling equipment if the European country first lifts sanctions imposed on Tehran.“Given the unprecedented heat wave across Europe and the tragic loss of innocent lives allegedly caused by the lack of adequate cooling systems, we have a friendly suggestion: For the safety of our people, lift the sanctions on Iran. We are ready to export a wide range of air conditioners and cooling equipment to Europe,” the Iranian Embassy in Turkey said in a post on Twitter. It further said that Iran has developed a domestic air conditioning industry despite years of sanctions.“And here’s the good news: despite years of sanctions, Iran has successfully developed and manufactured its own air conditioners using indigenous technology. We have the expertise, the production capacity, and we are ready to help – if Europe itself is ready to help,” it added. The comments come as Europe grapples with one of the most severe heat waves on record. France, the Netherlands and Belgium have recorded a combined more than 3,700 deaths during the June heat wave, Reuters reports, with officials warning that the figures are preliminary and could rise further.France was worst affected, where more than 2,025 deaths were recorded during the heat wave. French Health Minister Stephanie Rist said there had been a particularly sharp increase in deaths among people over the age of 45.According to experts, the heat wave, which lasted from June 20 to June 28, was one of the worst ever recorded across Europe. Rising temperatures disrupted power generation, damaged infrastructure and placed enormous strain on health care systems in many countries.
