The release date of Amit Rai’s family film Oh My Dog starring Pankaj Tripathi and debutant Mahi Rai has been pushed from July 31 to August 7. Read on to know why the makers decided to delay the film.

Sources close to the film told India Today The makers took this decision late on Sunday night after realizing that most of the screens were already taken up odyssey And dhamaal 4. With Spider-Man also scheduled to release on July 31, the producers felt competition would be too intense for a small film like oh my dog.

He said that without enough screens, the film’s marketing and release strategy would not unfold as planned. “It has all the possibilities, but there will be no space,” he told India Today in a statement.
Rai further said that the team decided to step aside for a while and delay the release by a week so that it can return after the audience sees the big release. He said, “By then, there will be some space and we might be able to develop there. That’s a very valid reason behind shifting the release.”

Emphasizing that the subject of the film was more important than the size of his role, Tripathi said, “That’s why I have been a part of this film. The real stars of this film are the people telling the story, especially Amit Rai (writer-director), the child actors in the film and of course, the dogs, who are the true stars. I have just supported the film, and I am only in a few scenes. It’s not my film, but I wanted to be here today.”
Describing the film as a labor of conviction rather than a business, Tripathi said, “This film is not made to earn Rs 200 crore or become a blockbuster. It should recover its investment and reach people’s hearts. That will be its real collection.”
The film also stars Pavan Malhotra and Rajesh Kumar in lead roles.
