Saba Azad reveals how relationship with Hrithik Roshan influenced voice-over work
Actress and singer Saba Azad has revealed her struggle to return to voice-over work, blaming misunderstandings caused by her relationship with Hrithik Roshan.
Saba Azad is a singer and an actress. The audience has seen her in both roles, but what many may not know is that she is also a voice-over artist. She has lent her voice to several commercials. Now, in a series of Instagram Stories, the actress shared that it has been years since she got the chance to do a voice-over. The reason is her relationship with Hrithik Roshan.
In her Instagram Stories, Saba revealed that she is finally back to doing voice-overs after almost two and a half years. She recalled how there was a time when she used to do 6-7 voice-overs a month and the number went down so much that she did not work for years. This happened even though she never said she was quitting the job or increasing her fees.
In one story, she revealed how a reputed director told her that he thought she wouldn’t be interested in something like a voice-over because she was in a relationship with Roshan. She didn’t clarify it, but wrote, “Well, you can imagine what was implied… he didn’t think I would do a job like VO considering where I am in life, i.e. who I’m dating.” She also calls him a ‘super progressive, chill’ guy.
She further added, “Are we really still living in that dark ages where we assume that a woman in a relationship with a successful partner no longer has to feed herself?? Or she doesn’t have to pay her rent and bills? Or she doesn’t take pride in her work and can’t take care of herself and her family??? What kind of archaic notion is this??”
“So I basically lost an entire career that I absolutely loved and adored because people thought I didn’t need to work anymore??? That’s sadly a very one dimensional patriarchal and regressive mindset,” she wrote.
He concluded, “For the unaware, when two strong independent individuals come together they do not give up their identities or their lives and careers to do so. They maintain their individual identities and share with freedom and power. It is truly sad to lose an entire career because of someone else’s ignorance. So again, no I have not quit ad-making- I still do VO. So please for the love of God change your perceptions and let’s start recording (sic).”
Saba Azad and Hrithik Roshan have been in a relationship for quite some time now. They have made their relationship public. Roshan was previously married to Sussanne Khan, while Saba Azad was dating Imad Khan.
