R Madhavan, Dia Mirza and Saif Ali Khan starrer love story, Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein, is turning out to be a success story even in its re-release if the opening weekend trends are anything to go by. The Gautham Menon-directed film earned Rs 20 lakh on Friday and doubled its collection to Rs 40 lakh on Saturday. The romantic story saw another jump in business on Sunday with a collection of Rs 55 lakh, taking the total opening weekend collection to Rs 1.10 crore.

The trend of the next two days will tell us how far Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein can go at the box office. Interestingly, the film was not a success at the time, but in the last few years it has gained cult status among the cinema-going audience due to its music and evergreen romantic elements.
To Reside in Your Heart This could be the third film to do well on its re-release in recent times, the other two being Rockstar and Laila Majnu. This romantic saga will aim to stay around Rs 25 lakhs on Monday, and then stay steady in the next 2 weeks to reach a reasonable number around Rs 5 crores.
A case study of all the successes in the re-release phase will lead us to the conclusion of how important music is in keeping a film relevant for the audience over the years. Be it Rockstar, Laila Majnu or Ab Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein – all the films have been boosted by the presence of a strong music album – which has made the film relevant to a whole new section of audience. Interestingly, none of these films were hits in the original run, although Rockstar did well enough to achieve a record of success.
‘Rehnaa Hai Tere Dil Mein’ had grossed Rs 5.10 crore in its first edition in 2001 and it will be interesting to see if it manages to cross that mark upon its re-release.
