India’s National Institute of Siddha (NIS), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of AYUSH, has created a Guinness World Record for administering Varmam therapy to 567 individuals simultaneously.

The event held at the NIS campus in Tambaram, Chennai highlighted the growing recognition of Siddha medicine and its non-invasive therapeutic methods.

Varma therapy, rooted in the Siddha system of medicine, is a traditional healing technique that uses precise pressure on vital points to treat a variety of health conditions.

The therapy claims to provide rapid relief from musculoskeletal pain, neurological disorders and trauma-related injuries.

In this programme, 567 trained Vermanis (doctors) provided treatment to 567 persons.

Union AYUSH Minister Prataprao Jadhav appreciated the efforts of NIS. In a written message, he appreciated the institute’s dedication to promoting Siddha medicine and preserving traditional medical practices.

Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH, highlighted the importance of the event. He said, “It’s not just about securing an award; it’s about raising awareness among the new generation about the science and value behind such practices.”

He credited NIS for its recent progress, citing the growing global and national interest in Siddha medicine.

NIS Director Dr. R. Meenakumari expressed pride in this achievement. They described Verum therapy as a “unique, non-invasive, cost-effective treatment” effective in addressing neurological diseases, musculoskeletal disorders, autism spectrum disorders and cerebral palsy in children.

“This Guinness World Record will draw significant attention to the Siddha system of medicine both in India and abroad,” he said.

The event was part of NIS’s ongoing mission to promote Siddha medicine and its benefits globally. The institute is committed to advancing traditional medical practices and ensuring that they reach a wide audience.
