Rani Mukerji honoured the late legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra by presenting him a commemorative postage stamp at the Australian Parliament. Karan Johar was also present at the ceremony as the keynote speaker.

Actress Rani Mukerji unveiled a commemorative postage stamp honouring late legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra at an event celebrating Indian cinema at the Australian Parliament. The event was held on August 13 ahead of the 15th annual Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM). It was attended by eminent dignitaries, members of Parliament and various ministers.
The launch of Yash Chopra’s special ticket paid tribute to his iconic contribution to Indian cinema and his role in taking Hindi films to the global stage. Yash Chopra was the first patron of IFFM. The veteran filmmaker’s daughter-in-law Rani represented the family at the festival. She was accompanied by filmmaker-producer Karan Johar as the festival’s keynote speaker.

Rani Mukerji shared her thoughts on the honour. She said, “I am truly honoured and humbled to be a part of this momentous occasion of the launch of the commemorative stamp of legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra at the Australian Parliament House. This is not only a celebration of Yash Chopra and YRF’s rich and impressive 50-year-old legacy of shaping pop culture across the world, but also of the Indian film industry that has entertained countless people through the power of cinema.”
He further added, “The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) has been a catalyst in bringing India and Australia closer to each other by promoting cultural and creative ties for the last 15 years. I am proud that the festival continues to grow stronger year after year and serves as a bridge connecting the best creative minds from India and Australia.”
Festival Director Mitu Bhowmick Lange shared her thoughts, “This is a landmark year for the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne as we celebrate our 15th year. And it is our privilege to share this special evening with Rani Mukerji unveiling the stamp of the late Yash Ji. His contribution to Indian cinema has influenced generations and will continue to do so for times to come. It is a great honour to have Rani with us on this special historic day to honour his legacy. This is a historic moment for us as Yash Ji was our first festival patron and a huge support system. The release of his stamp is a tribute to his 15th year with this commemorative stamp.”
The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne will showcase Indian films from August 15 to August 25.
