Ram Gopal Varma, who is often known for making bold and controversial statements, has praised the growth of the Malayalam cinema industry. Speaking to Galatta Plus, the Siva director said, “There was a time when we used to look at Malayalam cinema as just sex films. At that time, when I was doing engineering, we did not watch Malayalam films because they had more sex than any other film industry.”
The director further said, “Now, the best movies are coming out of the Malayalam industry in every way,” he praised the movies being made. He said that some unexpected movies coming one after the other could change the situation of the industry.
Speaking further on the subject, RGV reiterated that even in the earlier days, the industry used to make good movies, but the distributors were bringing out sex movies for whatever reason and due to various factors influencing it.
Apart from this, Ram Gopal Varma made another controversial revelation in the same interview. He revealed that a popular Telugu star had invested his own money in one of his flop films to keep it running in theatres.
Though RGV refused to reveal names, he said that the actor’s film was being funded by a Mumbai-based corporate company but it incurred losses. Not wanting to disrespect his fans, the actor spent his own money to keep the film afloat.
Though the director didn’t name anyone, netizens took it upon themselves and pointed fingers at actors Prabhas and Mahesh Babu. The statements made by them have definitely fuelled the fire of debate among fans.
Apart from this, the director also talked about the recent movies that he liked. In his answer, the director said that he loved The Kerala Story starring Adah Sharma and called it one of the best movies he has ever seen. The filmmaker also praised Hanuman and Kalki 2898 AD, in which he also played a cameo role in the latter film.
