He also told us, “After the success of ‘Stree 2’, my phone has been ringing non-stop. Everyone from the industry is calling me to congratulate me. All my friends and family are also reaching out to me and sending their love. Social media is showering love on me and I am very grateful for that. I can be quite detached from things and sometimes being unaware of how the audience sees you is a blessing of sorts. Of course, I know that ‘Stree 2’ has taken a great opening at the box office and My character Vicky is also getting a lot of loveAnd I’m very humbled by it. We tried to make a good movie, people liked it and we were all very excited about it and that was it.”
Now, talking about his negotiations and non-negotiables for choosing projects, he said, “When I started out, there was no such thing as non-negotiables for me, or I had made up my mind about what I would do and what I wouldn’t do. At that time, I just wanted to work and sign a project. Also, my mindset has always been that if a character demands it, I will do it. I have to be confident enough to do it.”
“In my first film ‘LSD’ (Love Sex Aur Dhokha) I was completely nude in a scene. Of course, it didn’t pass the censor board; it was blurry, but I was scared to do it,” Rao admitted. She further added, “But, I also knew that it was my first film and my big break and I couldn’t say that I was not comfortable doing it so I wouldn’t do it because at that time, I didn’t know when I would get my first film again with Dibakar Banerjee and Ekta Kapoor. So I told my parents about it and my mother was very sweet. She said if it’s part of your job, you’re an actor and if your role really demands it, and it’s really necessary for the project, then go ahead and do it.”
He added, “I’m a person who needs to be convinced about things I don’t personally believe in. I need to be told why I should do it. I need to be convinced enough that the film cannot be made, except for this moment or this particular action. It’s as simple as that; if something is not in my life’s principles, I need to be convinced to go ahead and do it. If it’s right for me, I’ll do it.”
