Rajinikanth’s manager takes a dig at director Vishnuvardhan for calling Billa a ‘flop’
Director Vishnuvardhan had recently created a controversy by calling Rajinikanth’s 1980 film Billa a ‘flop’. Rajinikanth’s manager denied this claim and insisted that it was a silver jubilee hit.
When Rajinikanth was facing a slump in his career, he starred in Billa, the Tamil remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s Don. The film, which was one of the biggest successes of Rajinikanth’s career, was recently called a ‘flop’ by director Vishnuvardhan.

I thought, what are we going to do? What do I like about the movie? I liked that at that time they had a dark character as the lead and I thought, that’s a good idea.

The director revealed that his 2007 remake, starring Ajith Kumar, was a remake of the 1980 classic, which has the same title.
However, this did not please Rajinikanth’s manager Riyaz Ahmed.

Billa is a 1980 Tamil thriller film directed by R. Krishnamurthy and produced by Suresh Balaje. The film starred Rajinikanth, Sripriya and Balaji. Billa was released on January 26, 1980 and emerged as a blockbuster, running for more than 25 weeks in theatres.
