Rahul Dev reprimands people for insensitive coverage of brother Mukul Dev’s funeral
Rahul Dev said that paparazzi arrived at his funeral after Mukul Dev shared the details on Instagram for relatives. The episode has sparked debate over privacy and media sensitivity during moments of grief.

Actor Rahul Dev has criticized the conduct of the paparazzi at his brother Mukul Dev’s funeral, calling their presence at a moment of personal grief as intrusive and insensitive.
‘I didn’t call anyone’
In a recent interview with hindi rushRahul said the photographers arrived at the cremation ground after sharing details of the funeral on Instagram, which he had intended for only close relatives. He said that when he was trying to fulfill his responsibilities, the situation created chaos.

Speaking about the incident, Rahul said that he did not inform the media about it. “The media should be a little responsible. It’s not that I don’t have very good friends in the media, but I experienced this at Mukul’s funeral too. I didn’t invite anyone. Where did they come from?” He said that he had to reach the cremation ground within some time from the hospital.
He said the information was shared privately via social media to family members, but it led to an unexpected influx of photographers. “It caused chaos. I lost my brother and you’re there taking pictures. It’s very strange,” he said.
Call for media sensitivity
Rahul stressed that the media needs to be more sensitive, especially in moments of grief. He said he confronted the photographers at the time and stood by his reaction.
He said, “I didn’t feel any embarrassment. I did what I felt was right. Instead the person covering it should feel embarrassed.” He said such behavior shows a lack of empathy.
He also recalled requests from photographers not to cover the funeral, but said he continued taking photographs. According to Rahul, he later saw videos of the funeral being circulated online.
The incident adds to the ongoing conversation about paparazzi culture in India, especially their presence outside hospitals and at funerals. Earlier, when his father Dharmendra was admitted to the hospital, Sunny Deol had also expressed his displeasure at the photographers outside the hospital.
Mukul Dev died at the age of 54 on May 23, 2025, after a brief illness. Rahul had earlier spoken about his brother’s declining health, saying that it had become worse after he lost his parents.
