Priyanka Chopra, who is currently shooting for her web series, Citadel: Season 2, started her acting career in Indian cinema. During his latest podcast with Friday Talkies, producer Sunil Darshan shared his experience of meeting Priyanka Chopra for the first time in his office regarding the casting of Andaz.
Talking about casting Priyanka in Andaz, Darshan revealed that it was a smaller role than Lara Dutta’s and a lot of women would come for the audition. One day his secretary brought Priyanka Chopra with her.
The producer of Andaz said that he was surprised to see that Priyanka’s look was unconventional as per beauty standards. The producer had a conversation with PeeCee in which he observed that the actress had a strong voice and beautiful eyes. Darshan, who was impressed by Priyanka’s personality, decided to cast her for the role.
“After 15 minutes I decided that I will 100 percent cast this girl in the main film. And I told her that day that one day you will become Rekha. Directed by Raj Kanwar, Andaz starred Akshay Kumar in the lead role. In the 2003 film, she was cast opposite then-newcomer Priyanka Chopra and Lara Dutta. While Akshay played the role of Flight Lieutenant Raj Malhotra, Lara was cast in the role of his childhood friend Kajal. Priyanka played the role of Jiya Singhania in the romantic-musical film.
Priyanka now has the American espionage series, Citadel: Season 2 and two Hollywood films, The Bluff and Heads of State in the pipeline. In Bollywood, Priyanka is known for films like Barfi, Bajirao Mastani, Aitraaz, Fashion, Mary Kom and others.
