Actor Priyanka Chopra shared a heartfelt note on social media, as he regretted remembering the dramatic re-localize of Rekha-renovated ‘Umrao Jaan’, which he described as his ‘favorite film’. The film is set to release again on 27 June.
Priyanka posted a small clip of the film, which featured Rekha, Farok Sheikh, and Naseeruddin Shah, writing, “It’s very sad to remember to support my favorite film and actors. It is going to be a great night. Congratulations.

The 1981 film has been restored by India’s National Film Development Corporation-National Film Collection under the National Film Heritage Mission.
Set in the 19th century, the film detected the arrival of Amiran (Rekha) at a brothel in Lucknow and saw his relationship with three leading characters played by Feroque Sheikh, Raj Babbar and Naseeruddin Shah.
Mirza Hadi Ruswa’s 1899 novel ‘Umrao Jaan Ada’, the film received widespread praise for Rekha’s powerful performance in her layered story, intimate music and Amiran, which earned her her first national award. It also received the National Award for Best Music Direction, Best Arts Direction and Best Women Playback Singer with three Filmfare Awards.
Meanwhile, Priyanka will be seen next time in ‘Heads of State’ with Idris Elba and John Cena. The actor also has ‘Citadel 2’ which was scheduled to be released this year. Hovber, it has been postponed in Spring 2026.
