Prime Minister Narendra Modi met actor Mammootty and his family after the Padma ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The Malayalam icon was awarded the Padma Bhushan in Delhi on June 23.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared several pictures on social media and congratulated actor Mammootty on being awarded the Padma Bhushan today. The actor was accompanied by his family, including his son Dulquer Salmaan, daughter-in-law Amal Sufia, daughter Surumi and wife Sulfath Kutty at the ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

PM Modi shared pictures after the ceremony on Instagram and wrote, “Met renowned actor Mammootty and his family after the 1st Padma ceremony today.”

Apart from the Malayalam icon, playback singer Alka Yagnik was also awarded the Padma Bhushan during the ceremony. The veteran singer, who has struggled with hearing loss in recent years, was assisted on stage by an usher. Before receiving the honour, Alka greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi sitting in the front row and took his blessings by touching his feet.

The list of recipients also included actor-filmmaker R Madhavan, who was awarded the Padma Shri. The actor also shared a moment with PM Modi before he came on stage to receive the honour.

This year the President approved 131 Padma awards, which include five Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan and 113 Padma Shri honours.

Mammootty’s filmography

Mammootty, 74, started his acting journey with an iconic role in the Malayalam film vilakkanundu swapnangal (1980) before continuing with a series of memorable performances. his success came with Sandhyakku Virinja Poovu (1983) established him as one of the leading stars of Malayalam cinema. In a career spanning over four decades, Mammootty has worked in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi films, and has earned widespread praise for his versatility and powerful performances. He has won several Filmfare Awards and National Film Awards, and was awarded the Padma Shri in 1998 for his contribution to Indian cinema. Widely considered one of India’s finest actors, Mammootty remains an enduring icon of Indian cinema.
