PM gift Sarnath Buddha Statue, Brokede Silk Shawl for Thailand’s royal family

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday gifted the brass statue of Sarnath Buddha in the posture of meditation, Maha Vajiralongkorne Fara Vajirklochoyhuhuh of Thailand and a brocade silk shawl from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.

PM Modi on Friday held a meeting with King Vajirklochoyuhuhuuhuhu and Rani Bajrasudhahimalakshan of Thailand at the Dusit Palace in Bangkok.

Brass statue is a surprising representation of Buddhist spirituality and Indian craftsmanship, inspired by the Sarnath style. Born from Bihar, Murthy Gupta and Pala Arts depict the traditions with their calm expression, complex elaborate rebels and iconic lotus pedestals.

While brocade silk shawl is an excellent work of India’s rich weaving tradition, which is prepared from excellent silk, it includes complex motifs depicting village life, divine ceremony and nature, which is inspired by Indian short and pitchwai art.

The vivid color of the shawl adds palette-reds, blues, greens, and yellow-rimbing joy and auspicious, while deep pink, magenta and gold adds a wide ornamental range to a regal touch. Beyond its visual splendor, the shawl claims a soft, warm and luxurious drape, which is dedicated to the weeks of craftsmanship to make each unique piece with skilled artisans.

According to a release from the Ministry of External Affairs (Mea), the two sides exchanged ideas on shared cultural heritage between the two countries and discussed ways to strengthen versatile relations.

“He exchanged views on a shared cultural heritage between India and Thailand. In this context, he spoke about Lord Buddha’s remains, who traveled from India to Thailand last year and had a positive impact in further strengthening people’s relations with people between the two countries.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi attended the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok. He welcomed the adoption of Bimstec Bangkok Vision 2030 and Bimstec Maritime Transport Agreement.

In a post on X, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Randhir Jaiswal said, “PM @narendramodi attended the 6th Bimstec Summit in Bangkok today. PM welcomed the adoption of Bimstec Maritime Transport Agreement, Bimstec Bangkok Vision 2030. Summit announcement.”
