Pew research says 34% of American chats. Where does India stand?

Pew research suggests that 34% of Americans have used Chatgpt, while Schwartz Reisman Institute for Technology and Society Institute Tornoto at Toronto University moves India with 36% daily users in Tornoto. There is a deep dive here.

A picture of a global AI playground, where 34% of American adults tip their hats to chat, what it was in 2023 almost double. But on the other side of the world? India’s daily users shocked 36%, exiting only 28% by Pakistan and 34% of the US. Obviously, India is showing some serious AI moves.

In America, Chatgpt is no longer a niche, it is the mainstream. Among adults under 30, 58% have used chatgips, from 43% in 2024 and only 33% in 2023.

Beyond overall adoption, awareness of Chatgpt has increased in the US in 2025, about eight out of ten Americans (79%) say they have heard of minimal equipment, compared to just 58% in the beginning of 2023.

Nevertheless, awareness is uneven: while less than 30 adults say that they have ‘heard a lot’ about chat, only 15% of the 65+ age groups can say the same.

Education is another major split. More than half of adults with a college degree (51%) have tried chatgate, compared to only 18% with a high school diploma or less.

This difference underlines how access, awareness and comfort is shaped by socio -economic factors with new technology.

Why is India using AI?

Indians are not only using AI, they are integrated throughout life. Globally:

  • Use Chatgpt for 33% work.
  • 28%for education.

Given that India leads to daily use, it is safe to say that AI is not just trendy, it is functional, smart, and perhaps also disrupting Google’s throne.
