Pankaj Tripathi reveals what it was like to be on the sets of Gangs of Wasseypur
Recently during an interview with News18 Showsha, Pankaj Tripathi shared his experience of shooting Gangs of Wasseypur in Uttar Pradesh during the winter days.
Tripathi recalled that unlike the other star cast of the film, he too did not have a vanity van on the sets as they were all “from a theatre background.” The actor added that he does not get the same atmosphere as GOW in the present times.
Pankaj Tripathi told that the star cast of GOW used to sit on chairs outside
Comparing the atmosphere of other film sets with Gangs of Wasseypur, Pankaj Tripathi said that nowadays, actors spend their time in vanity vans apart from shots.
Recalling his “fond memories” from the shoot, he said, “This didn’t happen in (Gangs of) Wasseypur because there were no vanities. We used to sit outside with chairs and talk a lot.”
When Pankaj Tripathi replaced Pankaj Jha in Gangs of Wasseypur
Pankaj Tripathi’s role of Sultan Qureshi, nephew of Sardar Khan’s enemy in Gangs of Wasseypur was first offered to actor Pankaj Jha. But, Pankaj Jha was not available before the shooting of GOW, so director Anurag Kashyap replaced him with Pankaj Tripathi.
Earlier, Kashyap had revealed about casting Tripathi in place of Jha, admitting that they were “low on budget” and “couldn’t wait for him.”
This happened after the Panchayat actor took an indirect dig at Kashyap and Tripathi over the Gangs of Wasseypur incident. He had reportedly called the director “coward” and “weak” and accused the Mirzapur actor of “glamorising the struggle”.
