Pankaj Tripathi has supported Arijit Singh’s decision to quit playback singing, highlighting the vital need for artistic breaks. Emphasizing that producers are not “factory products”, the actor said slowing down is necessary for personal reinvention and maintaining enthusiasm in a demanding profession.

It is important to take frequent breaks or slow down, because being an artiste is a demanding job. Only then will an artiste be able to innovate. We are not a factory product.”
“We are not like those 1,000 copies of matchboxes that a factory makes every day. We are artists, not products…there is a lot of hustle and bustle (There is a lot of running around). Every actor has to struggle and sacrifice a lot to reach where he is today. You should be excited to go to the set. And the motivation for that enthusiasm changes frequently,” he said.
Earlier, singer-songwriter Lucky Ali had also supported Arijit’s decision to retire from playback singing. Ali mentioned that he supports the singer because he chose to express himself outside of the restrictions imposed by the music industry.
Ali, in an interview with PTISaid, “To understand what he is really feeling, you have to stand in the musician’s shoes. And if he has taken such a step, something must have broken within him. I completely agree with Arijit when he took this stand. And that is no harm.”
In January 2026, Arijit announced that he would not be taking up any new assignments as a playback singer from now on. He thanked everyone for the support and said he would never stop making music.
