While Apple has recently unveiled the iPhone 16 Series – iPhone 16E, updated iPads, and the latest addition of new MACS, the company’s next big announcement may not be a phone or tablet. Instead, rumors suggest that Apple may plan to launch its second generation Airtag in the coming months. This new version is expected to bring several upgrade, making it an important update on the original model released in 2021. According to sources, including Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and Leikar Kosutami, Airtag 2 can reach the middle of May or June this year or the middle of the latest.

One of the most talked up is one of the second generation ultra wideband (UWB) chip. The new chip, which began in the iPhone 15 and Apple Watch Ultra 2, is expected to trip the tracking range of the Airtag. While the current Airtag provides a range of about 10–30 meters, Airtag 2 can increase it to 60–90 meters impressive. This means that you can find your lost goods from far away, even in crowded or less densely populated areas. Additionally, the better chip can increase the accurate search feature, making it easier to indicate the exact location of your goods.

Another major upgradation revolves around privacy and security. Criticism faced criticism after reports of misuse of the objectives of chasing the original Airtag. To address this, Apple is reportedly making the built-in speaker more tampering-proof. This will make it difficult for malicious users to disable the speaker, ensuring that the airtag can still alert nearby individuals if it is being used improperly.

Apple Vision Pro, Airtag 2 is also rumored to facilitate better integration with the mixed-coverage headset of Apple. While the details about this integration are rare, it can open new possibilities for the enhanced reality (AR) experiences, such as imagining the location of your traveled items in real time through the headset.

Despite these upgrades, Airtag 2 is not expected to undergo major design changes. This will probably maintain the compact, circular form of its predecessor, making it easier to attach the keys, bags or other individual items. It is also likely to continue using the CR2032 battery like its predecessor.

For pricing, the original Airtag currently costs $ 29 (USA) or Rs 3,490 (India) for a unit and $ 11,900 (USA) or Rs 11,900 (India) for a pack of Rs 3,490 (India). While Apple has not confirmed pricing for Airtag 2, it is likely to remain in the same range as the first generation model.
