Nosferatu emerged as the biggest Christmas opener in the horror genre; Dethrones the Faculty

Released in 2992 theatres, Nosferatu collected US$21.6 million in its opening weekend in North America. After 26 years, it has become the biggest opener for a horror film on Christmas, breaking the record of The Faculty.

Directed by Robert Rodriguez, the 1998 science fiction horror film grossed US$11.6 in a traditional weekend. The long gap is mainly because horror films usually do not get their release date on December 25 (Christmas).
